On the Fourth of July in Janesville 165 years ago a Mississippi steamboat arrived on the Rock River. But the dream of explosive growth of navigation to the Mississippi fizzled out because of shallow water, dams and railroads.

What a great video!!!!! We loved the whistles and the "caliape" music (not sure if I spelled that right. Every fall, we go to Edgerton for the "Rock River Thresheree", and they have great steam engines there, wood sawing powered by a steam engine, and the device that makes this caliape music, and the "Pile Driver", all powered by steam. It's a wonderful experience, and definitely worth checking out.
